About |
Precious Blood Parish was established in 1873. There had been a growing influx of French Canadian families moving to Woonsocket and Manville as well as Pawtucket and Central Falls. They needed priests who spoke French, but there were none at that time. The first two pastors were from Belgium.
Over the almost 150 years of this parish's existence there have been hundreds of men, woman and children who have grown in their relationship with Jesus Christ! Most, we pray, have gone on to their eternal reward. |

Msgr. Charles Dauray was the third and longest-lasting pastor. He was born in Marieville, Quebec on March 15,1838. When he came to Rhode Island in 1873 he had been a priest for three years. He had a most amazing legacy.
During his 54 years as pastor in Woonsocket. he established the first St. Antoine Nursing Home, St. Claire School for girls, St. Joseph Orphanage, and Mt. St. Charles High School for boys. He was instrumental in bringing congregations of religious Sisters and Brothers to Woonsocket. Most often there were three or four "vicar" priests who were assigned to help him. He served as pastor until his death in February of 1931. He was 93 years old. |
